Location: State Capitol Mall, Salem Oregon The Oregon Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus, along with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODF&W), sponsored a fun-filled day of fishing at the State Capitol Mall in Salem, Oregon on Saturday, May 25, 2019. All ages were welcomed at the event, and kids age 17 and under fished for free. The event had several activities to teach youth about the joy of fishing and the great outdoors. There were two fishing ponds stocked with rainbow trout, casting education station, fish anatomy station, bugology and knot tying station. Volunteers and staff were on hand with rods, reels, bait and all the gear needed to try fishing for first-time fishers. Other strategic partners included The National Sportfishing Industry Association, Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, Coastal Conservation Association, Oregon Hunters Association, Association of Northwest Steelheaders, Marion SWCD, Outdoor Chef Kurt, and the Desert Springs Trout Farm. “if you caught a fish, an outdoor chef was available to cook it for you! Few things make me happier than seeing a kid catch their first fish,” said Rep. Sherrie Sprenger of Scio, who currently serves as chair of the Oregon Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus. 900 Court St NE, Salem, OR 97301
